General President of the International Brotherhood of Teamster, Sean O'Brian along with General Secretary-Treasurer, Fred Zuckerman have made the drastic decision to disband Teamsters Local Union #677 and distribute its membership in its entirety, which consist of over 2000 members. Brother O'Brien, you say "Members First" but apparently just not the ones in Local #677. Our Local #677 has been in existence since 1935, that's over 85 years and to just abruptly close its doors without any reasonable cause and/or regard for the rights of the members. The first reason given was the inexperience of the current Business Agents. The answer to that is simply this- "Per Capita". We pay a "Per Capita" every month every month to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Thirty percent (30%) of those funds are to be used for the purpose of training the staff at the locals. As a member of local 677 we as members of the Teamsters Union have a right to be heard and challenge such a drastic change in our standing within this union. The two main reasonings given for our dissolvent have been "unacceptable building conditions" and "inexperienced leadership"

I contest both these statements. Buildings can be relocated or repaired.
In regards to leadership, for the first time in 10 years being a member of this local I have seen the changes our new leadership has brought to our workplace. People are no longer afraid to file grievances, members are treated with respect, no issue is too small to address, and conduct unbecoming of leadership has been dealt with.

I am a 35 yr member of local 677 teamsters union in Waterbury CT. Our 87 yr union chapter was dissolved Sunday morning by Strangers that know very little about our very humble and successful union, displacing 2700 members. We were blindsided!
